Reporting to the purchasing manager, this role provides material planning and purchasing functions for an OEM of heavy industrial process machinery. Specifically, responsible for the sourcing of drive components, bearings, sensors, fasteners, seals, lubrication systems, machined and fabricated parts, etc. from external sources and intercompany suppliers worldwide.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Buyer with a strong background in manufacturing and fabrication environments. This role is ideal for someone who can confidently interpret engineering drawings and prints while managing supplier relationships and procurement activities.
Key Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:
- Procure raw materials, fabricated components, and services based on engineering specifications and production plans
- Interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and fabrication prints to ensure accurate sourcing
- Identify and qualify suppliers capable of meeting manufacturing and quality requirements
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, and contracts to optimize cost savings and supply reliability
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to resolve design, sourcing, or supply issues
- Monitor supplier performance, including quality, delivery, and responsiveness
- Issue and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and timely follow-up
- Maintain ERP system data including pricing, lead times, and supplier information
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to cost reduction and supply chain efficiency
- Troubleshoot supply disruptions and implement corrective actions
- 3+ years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings/prints (GD&T knowledge preferred)
- Experience sourcing machined parts, fabricated assemblies, and/or metal components
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes (welding, machining, sheet metal, etc.)
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (SAP Business One is preferred)
- Strong Computer skills
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
