Job Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for working with executive management, sales, customers, manufacturing systems engineers, and production managers to design part specifications, update part designs, improve production facilities, and install new products. Specific job duties include: (1) designing and planning dies, hammers, and other mechanically functioning equipment for pellet mills and hammer mills; (2) overseeing the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of hammer mill and pellet mill equipment; (3) analyzing and correcting issues with failed, worn, and new parts and recommending changes for customers to avoid failure; (4) designing new parts using SOLIDWORKS software to complete engineering change orders and performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA); (5) advising domestic and international sales team on engineering problems and wear patterns and recommending new product specifications; (6) engineering and installing new products based on customer needs; (7) teaching customers proper installation and setup, and training on proper wear ring and die clamp movement, roll adjustment, and torque settings for die clamps and compression bolts; (8) researching and developing plant layout, equipment selection, equipment negotiation, procurement, and start-up for new products;(9) analyzing costs, process flows, and utilization, and recommending and executing improved projects; (10) evaluating and reporting rework pellet mill dies to prevent wear issues before damage occurs and detecting signs of tramp metal indicating worn wear rings or die claims; and (11) running data formulations through database and evaluating trends to determine compression ratios.

Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering or a closely related field as well as proficiency installing and troubleshooting equipment. Full-time position located in Harlan, IA. Domestic and international travel up to 60% of the time (primarily in the U.S.) to troubleshoot and install machinery for clients, typically for 1 week or less at a time.
