POSITION OVERVIEW (Job Summary): The Senior Buyer is responsible for sourcing and procuring key components for industrial equipment and related systems. This role supports strategic procurement initiatives, manages supplier relationships, and ensures timely, cost-effective, and high-quality material availability. The Senior Buyer works closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams and is expected to take a lead role in negotiations and continuous improvement efforts.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Manage procurement of critical components based on MRP and project needs
Lead supplier selection, negotiation, and performance management
Interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and specs for accurate sourcing
Support make/buy decisions and cost-reduction initiatives
Resolve issues related to quality, delivery, and invoicing
Maintain accurate purchase orders, inventory targets, and safety stock levels
Collaborate with cross-functional teams on new product launches and sourcing transitions
Work closely with production planning/scheduling
Monitor market trends and supplier risks
Mentor junior buyers and assist in developing sourcing strategies
QUALIFICATIONS:
5+ years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing or engineered-to-order environment
CPM, CPSM, or APICS certification
Strong knowledge of mechanical components and fabrication processes
Proficient in ERP systems (SAP Business One preferred) and Microsoft Excel
Able to read engineering drawings and manage supplier contracts
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to travel up to 40%, domestically and internationally
Preferred:
Exposure to international sourcing and landed cost models
