JOB SUMMARY:
Under general direction, the Design Engineer III is responsible for multiple, complex projects requiring a demonstrated leadership approach and focus on equipment design and fabrication drawings, process engineering, including project support, startup support; ensuring accuracy, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide equipment and process design from concept through to startup and operation on multiple projects by meeting project timelines, minimizing project costs, assuring proper equipment and process design and specifications of purchased components, generating and checking equipment fabrication drawings, and having thorough documentation; ensure accuracy, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
  • Travel as required to support project execution.  Provide technical, field assistance and/or training for customers in maintenance, installation, startup and operation of Extraction and connected processes.   May also include fabrication inspection. 
  • Perform various engineering calculations and analyses related to process design and equipment sizing and selection.
  • Provide engineering support to customers, and to the Sales, R&D, and Aftermarket teams as a subject matter expert for the Extraction processes. 
  • Respond to requests and work integrally with internal and external customers to provide efficient designs to meet project requirements. 
  • Review design and perform code calculation requirements for pressure vessels.
  • As required and as assigned, perform the roles, functions and responsibilities for project manager. 
  • Train and mentor Level I and II Engineers.   Assist with interviewing, hiring and on-boarding of new engineers and designers, as needed.
  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment and process designs; review designs for improved performance and cost savings.
  • Manage design standards, best practices, specifications and requirements for fabricated and purchased equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Exceed experience and capabilities of Level I & II (more than 7 years experience)
  • Proficient in the following skills:
    • Project scheduling, tracking and reporting
    • Process Flow Diagram creation
    • Piping & Instrumentation Diagram creation
    • Plant Process design, layout and sizing
    • Equipment layout and design
    • Mechanical and structural design
    • Thermal and performance design
  • Demonstrates professional integrity and ethics.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers, and vendors.
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret technical and commercial contracts.
  • Must be able to communicate in English fluently. Ability to communicate in a second language (European or Asian languages) preferred but not required.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; able to understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate technical information clearly and concisely. 
  • Required knowledge in AutoCAD.
  • Strong Microsoft office skills.
  • Preferred knowledge in Autodesk Inventor, CAD Vault, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Ability to travel on an as needed basis – domestically or internationally up to 20-25% of the time, in office and industrial plant environments.
  • Capable of self-managing projects and setting priorities.  Takes initiative to manage multiple overlapping projects throughout varying execution timelines.
  • Ability and experienced in collaborating with cross-functional teams and across geographies, creating value for end customers, and driving operational excellence within areas of responsibility.
